The Chow Chow is a breed of dog of the Spitz family originating from Northern China. The Chow Chow is a sturdy, square-bodied dog with a broad skull and small, triangular, erect ears with rounded tips. The breed is known for its very thick double coat, which can be smooth or rough. : 4–5  The coat is especially thick around the neck, giving it a distinctive mane or mane appearance.
